Canada's DTV transition is NOT the end of Free TV

There is a lot of misinformation out there regarding Canada's switch to digital-only TV on August 31, 2011. If you currently subscribe to cable or satellite then you will NOT be impacted. If you receive programming though an antenna and you have an older TV which does not have an ATSC tuner then you will lose your programming after Aug. 31. To continue to receive FREE over-the-air TV you will need to purchase a new HDTV or purchase a Set-top-box converter. DTV Digital TV Signal Report from Glens Falls New York

I, Brian, reports on my DTV digital TV signals from the Albany, New York TV stations (WRGB, WNYT, WTEN, WNYA, WCWN, WMHT, WXXA). I am in Glens Falls which is about 48 miles from the transmitter sight that sits south of Albany. I am fortunate to have a good line of site signal. WRGB Channel 6, knowing full well the issues of DTV on VHF, especially low VHF (2-6), decided to move their digital signal from UHF 39 to VHF 6, which for me means goodbye CBS! I guess they don't want me to watch WRGB anymore.

The "Eos" will monitor user interaction in the community and deliver both web-based content recommendations for users as well as targeted advertising. Eos will be tested on sites for the NHL and Nascar. ECHOSTAR has announced a $39.99 digital-to-analog converter box, which will be fully covered by the NTIA's $40 converter coupons. Users will only have to pay sales tax on the boxes. EchoStar is also working on higher-end converters that include DVR functionality but are not covered by the coupon program. DIGITAL TV SUCKS!

DIGITAL TV SUCKS! I live ONLY 1 MILE outside Indianapolis and this is what I have to deal with when I want to watch "improved" TV Watch as I simply move in my chair and the reception changes. I'm using a quality set top antenna, and I have tried two different brand converter boxes, even tried the attic antenna. Same result.

WLUK Analog Shutdown

WLUK, Fox 11 in Green Bay, long the lower-peg network station in a market dominated by WBAY and WFRV (but yet can make the claim as the home of the Packers and ratings many network shows drool over), leaves the air for the last time in analog on June 12, 2009 at 10am as only one of two stations along Wisconsin's lakeshore to go back to their analog home channels. After "Good Morning Wisconsin" anchor Rachel Manek somehow manages to almost sync right in with the ticker announcement below her (really, she does, just watch), the station cuts to black for a moment while the magical elves over at Charter Communications race to reposition the antennas and change the tuner for WLUK from their temporary channel 51 back to Channel 11, which they assure us will be more powerful and easier to recieve than 51 ever was (and that's true, somewhat by my experience). Then Rachael Ray comes on-screen and the switch is made. Recorded on a DVR, transferred to VHS, then again recorded by my tuner card before a minor tweak to increase the volume in Windows Movie Maker.

Play all of your music--from CD to iPod--with the JVC UX-LP5 micro component system, which features 70 watts of total power and a retractable flip dock places your iPod front and center. In addition to music playback, the JVC UX-LP5 also includes a composite video output, enabling you to connect the system to your TV or compatible computer monitor and view video stored on the iPod.

In addition to standard CD playback, the UX-LP5 can also play CD-R/RW media with MP3 and WMA files. And it includes a digital AM/FM radio (with 15 AM presets and 30 FM presets). The UX-LP5 provides separate bass and treble controls, as well as a selectable JVC Hyperbass mode, which adds emphasis to lower frequencies. Other features include a clock, programmable timer, two-way bass reflex speakers, and a remote control.
