The Tray Lock feature allows a disc to be loaded into the tray and secured with an on-screen code. It's great for ensuring that a retail demonstration disc remains in the player, as well as to keep children from removing music and movie titles. Other DVD playback features include multi-angle viewing, multiple subtitle selection, slow motion, fast scan (2x, 4x, 8x, 20x), and parental lock.

This set has two stereo speakers that produce 2.5 watts of power per channel (5 watts total). The double baffle front-firing speaker design delivers improved stereo sound reproduction without connection additional speakers. The StableSound feature eliminates the annoyance of normal program volume being followed immediately by extremely loud commercial messages or drastic volume fluctuations while changing channels. The DVD player also offers Dolby Digital and DTS decoding, and the set has a coaxial digital audio output for connecting to a surround sound home theater system.

DTV Digital TV Signal Report from Glens Falls New York

I, Brian, reports on my DTV digital TV signals from the Albany, New York TV stations (WRGB, WNYT, WTEN, WNYA, WCWN, WMHT, WXXA). I am in Glens Falls which is about 48 miles from the transmitter sight that sits south of Albany. I am fortunate to have a good line of site signal. WRGB Channel 6, knowing full well the issues of DTV on VHF, especially low VHF (2-6), decided to move their digital signal from UHF 39 to VHF 6, which for me means goodbye CBS! I guess they don't want me to watch WRGB anymore.

COMCAST CEO Brian Roberts will deliver this morning's CES keynote and reveal a plan to increase on-demand titles from 1300 to 6000. Roberts will also discuss the company's plans for Fancast.com, a guide to video that helps users find content online and offline. Fancast will let users search for any content in any format. A search on the site will return listings for TV, DVD, iTunes, Netflix, Amazon or web video sites like Hulu. The site will also integrate with Comcast and TiVo DVRs, letting users schedule recordings through the site. CISCO has designed an "entertainment operating system" that will help companies build online communities of viewers that watch specific TV shows or match other criteria. The "Eos" will monitor user interaction in the community and deliver both web-based content recommendations for users as well as targeted advertising. Eos will be tested on sites for the NHL and Nascar. ECHOSTAR has announced a $39.99 digital-to-analog converter box, which will be fully covered by the NTIA's $40 converter coupons. Users will only have to pay sales tax on the boxes. EchoStar is also working on higher-end converters that include DVR functionality but are not covered by the coupon program. In related news, the NTIA has certified 250 retailers and 19 different digital-to-analog converters for the program. Retailers include Best Buy and Wal-Mart.
